Harper McClure Named Executive Chef of Mintwood Place

Harper McClure joins Mintwood Place as Executive Chef, bringing new family packages, picnic baskets and happy hour specials to enjoy at home.

Mintwood Place, located in the bustling Adams Morgan neighborhood at 1813 Columbia Road, NW, Washington, DC, is pleased to announce the appointment of Harper McClure as executive chef of the popular neighborhood brasserie. McClure brings 17 years of experience to his new position, five of those devoted to cooking Belgian & French fare at notable Washington establishments Brabo by Robert Wiedmaier and Stephen Starr’s Le Diplomate. With his appointment, comes the introduction of a large family packages, specialty gift baskets and happy hour specials that are perfect for toasting with family and friends at home.

The Memorial Day Picnic Basket is priced at $90 per couple and includes generous portions of Grilled Marinated Eggplant; Confit Cherry Tomatoes; Prosciutto di Parma; Wild Boar Salami; Brillant-Savarin, soft ripened triple cream cow’s cheese; Salmon Rillettes; Rustic Bread; Roasted Chicken Salad, as well as Grilled Jumbo Prawns with anchoïade and fennel salad. Two family packages are also available and include an assortment of Dad-approved grilling favorites ideal for Father’s Day. The Family Package is priced at $135 for a family of four and includes two pounds of Espelette-Rubbed Jumbo Chicken Wings, served with urfa ranch dipping sauce; House-Made Linguica Sausage; four Herb-Marinated Bavette; Orzo Pasta Salad with finocchiona salami and red wine vinaigrette; Marinated Summer Vegetable Skewers and Classic New York Style Cheesecake.  The Baller Dad Package is priced at $250 for a family of four and includes four pounds of Espelette-Rubbed Jumbo Chicken Wings, served with a urfa ranch dipping sauce; two House-Made Linguica Sausage links; two Dry-Aged Cowboy Cut Ribeye Steaks from Roseda Farms; Orzo Pasta Salad with finocchiona salami and red wine vinaigrette; Marinated Summer Vegetable Skewers and Classic New York Style Cheesecake. Items are also available a la carte with prices ranging from $4 to $75 each.

Mintwood Place is also offering guests a chance to enjoy their popular happy hour specials at home.  Available for pick-up orders only, Tuesday through Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., guests can enjoy a rotating selection of can and bottled beer for $3-$4, as well as select red, white and sparkling wines for $10 per bottle, and a featured cocktail of the day for $8. A selection of small plates is also available, each priced from $10 to $16. Highlights include Meatballs Pomodoro with provolone and sourdough croutons; Country Pâté with port onions and rustic bread; Grilled Ham & Cheese Sandwich with brioche, Dijon mustard and mixed green salad, and the Mintwood Burger with applewood-smoked bacon, Marie Rose sauce, pickled roulade and cheddar cheese, served with French fries.

Harper McClure was born in Preble, New York and is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. In 2003, McClure began his culinary career as a garde manger where he composed daily canapés, amuse-bouche and cold appetizers at the five-star Wheatleigh Hotel, an 1893 Italianete mansion surrounded by 22-acres in Lenox, Massachusetts. McClure later relocated to Washington, D.C. to serve as executive sous chef at the award-winning Vidalia restaurant under acclaimed chef and owner Jeffrey Buben. McClure would serve under the two-time James Beard award-winning chef from December 2005 to April 2009. After stints at Equinox and Marcel’s by Robert Wiedmaier, McClure accepted a position to serve as chef de cuisine at The Federalist, situated within the four-star Madison Hotel. McClure would serve at the restaurant for two years, from July 2011 to March 2013, before being named executive chef of Brabo by Robert Wiedmaier in Alexandria, Virginia. Then, in August 2018, McClure was named chef de cuisine at Stephen Starr’s Le Diplomate. Under his direction the restaurant was named one of the “100 Very Best Restaurants” by Washingtonian magazine and received “three stars” from The Washington Post.  In April 2020 McClure accepted the position of executive chef of Mintwood Place.
